The Museum of Yachting will hold three new exhibits during the 2008 season. The three overlapping exhibits will span the one hundred year period between 1883 when Rufus Bush first made plans to build the schooner yacht Coronet to 1983 when the America’s Cup left Newport.

The first exhibit, Sparkman & Stephens – Evolution by Design (link to Exhibits – Sparkman & Stephens) recognizes the genius, characters and personalities behind the remarkable string of successful designs from this renowned firm and is a tribute to Olin Stephens, founder and chief designer from 1929 until his retirement in 1980 in this, his one hundredth year.  The exhibit will be coupled with the building of a replica of the S&S-designed 6-Metre Cherokee.

The Coronet Dressed for The Fourth of July, Yokohama Harbor - U.S.S. OlympiaThe Museum also hosts an exhibit on the Grand Voyages of Arthur Curtiss James (link to Exhibits – The Grand Voyages of ACJ) (1867–1941), one of America's wealthiest men who owned and cruised worldwide onboard Coronet and his two Aloha yachts. Coronet, an 133-foot 1885 schooner yacht currently under restoration at the International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS), was owned by James in the 1890’s and is the last grand yacht from the Victorian era extant today.
